Black nightshade a garden nuisance
Black nightshade (Solanum nigrum) is more of a nuisance plant in gardens and waste areas than one which causes problems in natural areas. Still, it’s better not to have it around the place - it starts flowering when the plant is very small, and the green berries produced are poisonous. The berries are eaten by birds and seeds spread that way, so the key is to get rid of this annoying plant before it has a chance to reproduce! Luckily in a garden setting this isn’t too tricky - as black nightshade is an annual, it can be pulled out before it sets berries, and left to rot down on site.
