Profile
Our group is mostly working on the removal of weeds within the dune system and surrounds in Rarawa. There is a whole range of weeds that have been taken out of these area including wattle, kikuyu, thistles and a range of others. Friends of Rarawa have planted native plants back into the areas that have been cleared. In time and with ongoing work we are hoping to restore as much as we can of the dune systems in this way - pingao and atriplex with spinifex in the fore dune and exposed areas in front of these are where these plants are. We also have coprosma in this area also.
For group members, it has been an opportunity to encourage further community participation with the inclusion of education opportunities in our local schools. The aspiration is that something of what we share takes root and prospers with our tamariki together with their parents.
